Where I practise
A chiropractor in Great Totham, near Maldon
I practise at the Elaris Chiropractic & Wellbeing Centre in Great Totham, a couple of miles north of Maldon in Essex. This page is the practical one: where the building is, what happens at a first visit, and the three ways to arrange an appointment. If you want to know how I think about pain before you decide, that is on why pain persists.

Three ways to arrange an appointment
Email me. hello@elarischiropractic.co.uk comes to the practice directly and I answer it myself. Tell me what is going on and I will tell you whether I think I am the right person to see. Arrange an appointment.
Or ring the practice. 01621 731671 is the landline and the number to use for booking an appointment.
Or ring me directly. 07595 397710 is my mobile.
Book through the clinic. Appointments are handled by the practice rather than by this site, so booking goes through the Elaris Chiropractic & Wellbeing Centre.
If you are asking about an appointment or about care, please keep your first email brief and leave out detailed medical information. Ordinary email is not a secure way to send it, and we will ask you for anything clinical we need when we reply.
Email and telephone are not monitored continuously and are not for urgent problems. If you have symptoms that need attention now, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999. Nothing on this website is medical advice.
What happens on a first visit
A long conversation. More history than you may expect: when it started, what was happening in your life at the time, what has been tried, what helped and for how long, what you have stopped doing because of it.
A physical assessment. How you move, how you load, what is guarded. Standard physical and orthopaedic examination. Wear or bring something you can move in.
What I found. I will tell you what I have found in plain words, and whether I think I am the right person for you to see. If I am not, I will say so.
What to bring. Any scans or reports you already have, and a list of anything you are taking. If you do not have any of that, come anyway.
This is a description of the process. It is not a statement of what any of it achieves, and I do not publish a typical number of visits, because I do not know yours.
Who you would be seeing
Steve Davison has been in practice since 2001. He read immunology at King’s College London and took an MPhil in molecular genetics at Queens’ College, Cambridge, before qualifying as a chiropractor at the University of Surrey. He is registered with the General Chiropractic Council, registration number 01149, and holds professional indemnity through Balens.
Most of his clinical work is with people whose pain has not resolved after other treatment. About Steve Davison is the long version, and why pain persists is how he thinks about it.
The framework he built for that work is the Elaris Method.
Where people travel from
The practice is in Great Totham and serves Maldon and the surrounding mid-Essex area.
Common questions
Where is the practice?
At the Elaris Chiropractic & Wellbeing Centre, Orchard House, 33 Colchester Road, Great Totham, Maldon, Essex, CM9 8DG. Great Totham is a couple of miles north of Maldon, on the B1022.
What happens at a first appointment?
A long conversation about the history, then a physical assessment, then a plain account of what I have found and whether I think I am the right person to see. The full description is in the first-visit section above.
How do I book an appointment?
Three ways. Email me at hello@elarischiropractic.co.uk, which comes to the practice directly rather than through this website. Ring the practice on 01621 731671 to book an appointment. Or ring me on 07595 397710 if you would rather speak to me directly. All three are in the arranging section above.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Chiropractic in the UK is direct-access private care, so you can arrange an appointment yourself without a referral. If you would rather speak to your GP first, that is entirely reasonable and nothing here is a substitute for their advice.
