The short version
This site uses a small number of cookies.
The ones that are necessary to make the site work are set automatically. There are very few of them and they do not track you.
The ones used to measure how the site is used are not set unless you agree. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. If you say no, it does not run, and you can change your mind at any time.
There is no advertising on this site, nothing is sold here, and we do not use cookies to build a profile of you or to follow you around the internet.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies do much the same job under different names, for example local storage. The rules are the same for all of them, and where this page says “cookie” it means any of them.
The law splits them in two. Some are strictly necessary, meaning the site cannot do what you have asked of it without them, and those do not need your permission. Everything else does, and refusing has to be as easy as agreeing.
Cookies we set

That is the only cookie an ordinary visitor receives before making a choice.
If you log in to manage the website, WordPress sets cookies to keep you logged in and remember your settings, with names beginning wordpress_, wordpress_logged_in_ and wp-settings-. These are strictly necessary for the administration area, and are never set for ordinary visitors.
Analytics. Only if you agree.
We use Google Analytics 4. It is switched off until you say yes. If you agree, it sets these:

What Google Analytics collects if you agree: which pages you looked at and their titles, when, roughly where in the world you are, and general information about your device and browser, along with the random number above.
What we use it for: understanding which pages people find useful, so the site can be improved. We do not run advertising on this site and we do not use this information to advertise to you.
What Google does with it: the information goes to Google, and Google also processes it as described in its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. If you would rather your reading of a chiropractor’s website were not part of that, press Reject, and none of it happens.
Information may be sent outside the United Kingdom. Our privacy notice explains that.
Cookies we do not use
No advertising cookies. No social media cookies. No embedded videos, maps, booking systems or review widgets. Nothing is loaded from another company except Google Analytics, and only if you agree. The two fonts the site uses are stored on our own server rather than fetched from Google.
How you give or refuse permission
The first time you visit, a banner asks you. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookie above is set before you answer, and you can carry on reading the site whether you agree or not. Nothing on this site is hidden behind that choice.
The banner offers you Accept and Reject, side by side, equally easy to see and to press. Nothing is ticked for you in advance.
To change your mind, use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. It is there permanently. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing, and takes effect immediately: analytics stops, and the cookies above are deleted.
If you refuse, we will not keep asking on every visit. We remember your answer in the consent cookie and leave you alone.
Why we ask rather than assume
There is an exception in the rules that lets some websites run analytics without asking, where the only purpose is counting visits to improve the service. We do not rely on it. That exception requires that no third party uses the information for its own purposes, and Google Analytics does not meet that condition, because Google is a third party with its own uses for the data. So we ask.
Controlling cookies in your browser
Separately from the banner, you can control cookies through your own browser, for this site or any other. Every major browser lets you see what is stored, delete it, and block cookies in future. Look in your browser’s settings under privacy or cookies.
Blocking cookies will not stop you reading this site. Blocking the consent cookie only means we have to ask you again.
Links to other websites
Where this site links to a website we do not run, that other site can set its own cookies once you arrive there, and this notice does not cover them. Their own cookie and privacy notices apply. The sites we are most likely to link to are the practice website at elarischiropractic.co.uk and the practice building website at bluecowpractice.com.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs of requests to the site, which include the internet address a request came from. That is not a cookie and it is not something you can switch off, because it happens on the server rather than in your browser. It is used to keep the site running and secure. The privacy notice says more about it.
